Hello there! We are from Baken Park Lyceum in the Netherlands and are going to do some research on architecture , a few buildings in the Netherlands and the shapes of it. Another thing we are going to do is asking people what they think of the buildings and what shapes they see in it. Do people now a lot about architecture? We also wanted to interview a architect, but he didn't have time for us before January 30st. Group members: Evan: Hello, I am Evan and my hobby is judo (a martial art).I am fourteen years old and I don't know what my ambitions are. Niels: Hi there, I am Niels and I'm fourteen years old. I don't know what my ambitions are for later. Shyheem: My name is Shyheem and I love to play soccer and basketball. I don't know what my ambitions are. Femke: Hi, I'm Femke and I am fourteen years old. I want to study Medicine when I graduate. I don't know what job I want, maybe anesthesiologist , surgeon or something like that. My wish for the future is to earn a lot of money and have my own business Who is going to do what ? Evan: Makes the questions for an interview with people . Niels: Is the group leader, he makes sure everything we need to do gets done. Shyheem: Is the interviewer. He asks people the questions that Evan made. Femke: Is the editor of Weebly. She makes sure the website looks good . Dieme: Is the photographer and takes some pictures of buildings . She also helps Femke with editing |
Maths is important in architecture. Aspects you can think about are calculating angles, lengts and how much a project will cost.
Architects sometimes get inspired by maths.

Apollo Hotel has two buildings. The architect is Will Alsop.
The right side of Apollo Hotel is a globe. The globe is cut in a half , this makes it look like a potato.

Fashion Dôme is a big building in Almere, in Holland. There are two buildings connected with a bridge from glass.
The left building has two layers. One layer from aluminium and one layer of steel poles and colored strips next to the windows.
The right building looks like an UVO with a lot of windows. There are three rows of windows.
Femke sent a message to the boss of the building to ask him if he knew who the architect was and if he has more information about the architecture, but he didn't. She received a message where he said that he couldn't help and that he was sorry. Unfortunately we couldn't get much information about this building.

Because we couldn't do our project about the Fashion Dôme we decided to do it about the Erasmusbrug, a bridge in Rotterdam.
Erasmusbrug is a cable-stayed bridge. A cable-stayed bridge has at least one pylon with cables. The bridge deck has cables on the side that are connected to a pylon. On both sides of the pylon are cables so it is stabilised. |

Interview:
Person 1(didn't want a picture), interview about the Erasmusbrug:
What do you think of the Erasmusbrug?
It looks very heavy and not pretty. I love things symmetrically, but this isn't and that's why I think it is not pretty.
What mathematician figures do you see in it?
I see a misshapen triangle.
Do you love modern architecture or the old one?
I love modern architecture.
Person 2, Apollo Hotel:
What do you think of the shape from the building?
I think the building is beautiful and remarkable.
Which mathematician shapes are used?
A beam, dome and a cylinder.
Do you prefer modern architecture or the old form? Why?
I prefer the old form, because it's full of character.
What materials do you think that are used?
I think wood, plastic and glass.
Person 3 (no picture), Fashion Dôme:
What do you think of the building?
I think it is ugly, because it looks dirty.
What mathematician shapes do you see?
Some kind of a globe with a wide cylinder underneath.
Do you prefer modern architecture or old?
I prefer modern architecture, because I like glass en different colors. I don't like basic houses, I love different sizes and shapes when it comes to architecture.
What materials are used, according to you?
The upside is steel with glass . Also stone and concrete below.
Differences between the Netherlands and India:
India is a country in Asia, the Netherlands in Europe.
There are mountains in India, there aren't mountains in the Netherlands.
In India are palaces and haveli's, we don't have that in the Netherlands.
Differences and similarities from our group and one from India:
We chose to compare our group to Ahlcon Math in architecture.
Differences:
- Ahlcon had their information faster than we had.
- They have a big PowerPoint, we typed our information on the site .
Similarities:
- We both looked at a building
This was our project.
We actually also wanted to interview an architect, but unfortunately he didn't have time for us. We liked this project and the video conference.
We enjoyed it and are looking forward to our next video conversation!
We hope you learned something from our article.
Bye!
