Math in soccer
Research
For our soccer experiments we did 3 tests.
- The 1st test: calculating the parabola of a high ball.
- The 2nd test: How fast does the average person run?
- The 3rd test: The average speed of a ground ball.
As a conclusion from the 2nd and the 3rd test, we concluded that it is faster to pass the ball than to run with the ball yourself. We also interviewed our Physical Educations teacher to try to get some more information on math in sports. The interview is also included into the video below.
Comparison
First of we explained the research we did for our topic by means of a video. Upon looking at how the Indian schools did it, we noticed they did it by means of an explanation put on paper which was, on term put on weebly. We think we showed our research a little more professional but their way was very nice as well. As for the other Indian schools, we think they had a more elaborate way of presenting their topics, ofcourse they did it via prezi and powerpoint whilst we did it via a video. Furthermore we find that the Indian schools had a wider approach then we had because we mainly focussed on soccer. All in all we think all schools did a great job on presenting and explaining their topics.
Reflection
We think that this topic really got us thinking about how much math is actually involved in our lives, how much we use math every day without even being aware of it and we're not just talking about math in school but in our daily lives aswell. Furthermore this topic really got us thinking on how you can calculate some things in real-life without having to rely on already given information but needing to get your own data through measurements or other calculations. We really enjoyed working on this project because it made us work together and find a solution together to the problems we had, it really helped us boost our teamwork.
