Populatie OostvaardersplassenIntroduction and actionplan
Our EU mind project is about the Oostvaardersplassen and specifically how the population of the Oostvaardersplassen has changed over the years. After we dived the roles, Naomi went to the Oostvaardersplassen and made some pictures, Jasmin made the questions, Koen and I searched for information, I interviewed some people, Koen made articles out of the information and Stijn put it all on the site.

Interview
For the research of our project we asked 4 people (Rick’s mother, Wilfred Botland, Rick’s father and Koen’s mother) 5 questions about the Oostvaardersplassen.
These questions were:
-What kind of animals live in the Oostvaardersplassen?
-Is there more water or more ground?
-Are all the trees the same type?
-How long does it exist?
-How has the population changed through the years
The answers to these question are used in the articles.

the historie of the Oostvaardersplassen
in 1968 there stayed a lot of bodies of water in the flevopolder. the Original plan was to create an Industrial area, but there was no need for it.
it was sown with reed and was left alone. the nature developed itself on the fertile soil. becouse of the plants that growed there, there came a lot of birds. they could exuviate there peacefully, also they scavanged the reed what resolted in the swamp not growing full of reed. becouse of this a land was created that was also suited for other animals.
in 1983 there was a group of 35 heckoxen. and in 1984 27 honik horses. that were brought to this land.
in 1992 45 red deers followed they left the zone open. In 1986 the oostvaardes plassen were chosen as a nature resort.
in 1996 the ownership of the oostvaadersplassen was transfert to Staatsbosbeheer.

How has the population of the Oostvaardersplassen changed over the years?
-What kind of animals live in the Oostvaardersplassen?
There are lots of animals in the Oostvaardersplassen but we will take a look at the big animals: the Heckrund, The Konikhorse and the Edeldeer.
In the picture down below you can see that all of those animalgroups have grown, especialy the Heckrund. In 2000 the population of the Heckrund reached his limit, in that year the number of animals born was the same as the number of animals that have died. From 2004 the number of Heckrunderen became less but from 2013 the number stayed the same.
The number of horses kept growing till 2008 and the deer kept growing till 2011. In 2008 the horses reached their limit and from 2013 they began to grow again. The deer reached their limit in 2011.
